Metabolic activities and ultrastructure imaging at late-stage of wood decomposition in interactive brown rot - white rot fungal combinations

چکیده

Basidiomycota brown rot fungus ( Fomitopsis pinicola ) and two white fungi Phlebia radiata , Trichaptum abietinum were cultivated on thin slices of spruce wood individually in interspecies combinations. Within 12 months, F. substantially decomposed observed as mass loss, also three-species However, through hyphal interactions negatively affected the brown-rot indicative iron reduction capacity . Decay-signature gene expression mycelial interaction zones indicated suppression mechanism but stimulation enzymatic white-rot lignin attack by P. Wood ultrastructure imaging showed dominance fungal combinations, whereas destructive was evident with alone. Our results confirm dynamic pattern enzyme production transition from to decomposition metabolism during late stage decay after one year interspecific interactions.

Fungal hydroquinones contribute to brown rot of wood.

The fungi that cause brown rot of wood initiate lignocellulose breakdown with an extracellular Fenton system in which Fe(2+) and H(2)O(2) react to produce hydroxyl radicals (.OH), which then oxidize and cleave the wood holocellulose. One such fungus, Gloeophyllum trabeum, drives Fenton chemistry on defined media by reducing Fe(3+) and O(2) with two extracellular hydroquinones, 2,5-dimethoxyhydr...

Sugarcane residue decomposition by white and brown rot microorganisms

Harvesting green sugarcane with chopper harvesters results in up to 24 Mg/ha of post-harvest residue. Soil microorganisms can decompose residues and offer numerous ecological and economical benefits to growers; however, the process is dependent on the biotic density, diversity and activity in the soil. Further, the decomposition process is unfavourably slow such that sugar yields are adversely ...

Extensive sampling of basidiomycete genomes demonstrates inadequacy of the white-rot/brown-rot paradigm for wood decay fungi.

Basidiomycota (basidiomycetes) make up 32% of the described fungi and include most wood-decaying species, as well as pathogens and mutualistic symbionts. Wood-decaying basidiomycetes have typically been classified as either white rot or brown rot, based on the ability (in white rot only) to degrade lignin along with cellulose and hemicellulose. Prior genomic comparisons suggested that the two d...

Changes in Molecular Size Distribution of Cellulose during Attack by White Rot and Brown Rot Fungi.

The kinetics of cotton cellulose depolymerization by the brown rot fungus Postia placenta and the white rot fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium were investigated with solid-state cultures. The degree of polymerization (DP; the average number of glucosyl residues per cellulose molecule) of cellulose removed from soil-block cultures during degradation by P. placenta was first determined viscosimet...

Oxidative Degradation of Wood by Brown-Rot Fungi

Brown-rot fungi are Basidiomycetes that remove cellulose and other polysaccharides from wood, leaving an amorphous, brown, crumbly residue that is composed largely of lignin, hence the name brown-rot. Decay by brown-rot fungi is by far the most serious type of damage to wood in-service. These fungi cause structural failure before losses in total wood substance are detected. The effect of brown-...
